Lecturer/Assistant Professor of Dance

The School of Art is looking for a highly qualified full time Dance faculty member. Dance is part of the Music program, and cocurricular programs.

Candidates must have the ability to teach in a multitude of the following areas with specialized excellence in teaching ballet/pointe technique, restaging classical works, and choreographing new contemporary works for concerts: Beginning through pre-professional level ballet technique, pointe, choreography, modern dance, dance forms (world dance and/or social dance forms), dance history, pedagogy, improvisation, restaging of classical repertoire and choreographing contemporary and/or classical ballet for concert.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have an MFA or equivalent professional experience in dance and choreography, significant professional experience in major dance markets, and a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, and service at all levels. Additionally, the successful candidate should have administrative experience and a track-record of curriculum development.

✅ Demonstrated ability to teach one or more of the following: contact improvisation, anatomical-based and/or somatic approaches, dance for camera, ballet, Pilates, hip-hop, world dance techniques, lighting design for dance, music for dance.
✅ Demonstrated ability to directly advise and mentor the aesthetic and scholarly development of undergraduate and graduate dance majors in their creative and academic work.
✅ Demonstrated ability to incorporate technology-based pedagogy into existing courses.
✅ Evidence of experience teaching, mentoring, and developing research in ways that effectively address individuals from historically underrepresented backgrounds.

The Position Benefits

✔ Tax-free salary $25,000 - $40,000.
