Department Chairperson Government And Justice StudiesThe College of Arts and Sciences at Appalachian State University invites applications to fill the position of Chair of the Department of Government and Justice Studies. The starting date is July 1, 2014. The Chair has administrative, teaching, and scholarship responsibilities and assumes leadership of a Department with three dozen faculty and administrative members. The salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. The Search Committee encourages candidates at the rank of Associate or Full Professor from all specializations in Political Science, Criminal Justice, and Public Administration to apply for the position.
QualificationsThe successful candidate will have:
An earned Doctorate in Political Science, Criminal Justice/Criminology, Public Administration, or related field (a J.D. is not sufficient for this position)
Strong interpersonal, leadership, and management skills
Evidence of academic administrative ability and effectiveness
A commitment to teaching, scholarship, and service that is consistent with the missions of the Department, the College of Arts and Sciences, and Appalachian State University
A demonstrated ability to work with colleagues from a variety of disciplines
