The candidate will assume the chair's position and provide leadership, vision, administration, and management for the Chemistry department. He/she will perform teaching, research and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise. He/she will share responsibility for committee assignments. The chair's duties entail fostering an environment that promotes excellence in faculty teaching, significant extramurally-funded research, and service to the profession and the community, as well as managing and/or supervising the majority of administrative tasks in the department. It is expected that the successful candidate will participate fully in the life of the Department, College, and university including teaching, committee work, obtaining grants, publishing in refereed professional journals, and mentoring junior faculty.
Faculty will have the opportunity to collaborate with the Lehman College based centers and institutes on research and other projects of scholarly interest.
QualificationsThe candidate must have a Ph.D. degree in Chemistry. or equivalent Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution. The candidate must have considerable supervisory and administrative experience, a record of considerable external research funding, and a record of proven academic leadership skills. The successful candidate will have an established record of nationally-recognized scholarship and will have demonstrated effectiveness in teaching that merits appointment as Professor.
