Dean Of The J. William Fulbright College Of Arts And Sciences

The University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences. Fulbright College is the largest and most diverse of the University’s academic units, comprising 19 departments—plus cross disciplinary programs and centers—spanning the fine arts, humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences, and offers degrees at the baccalaureate, masters, and doctoral levels. The Dean is the chief academic and administrative officer of the College and reports to the Provost/Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. The University of Arkansas holds the highest possible classification by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, RU/VH, which is defined as a doctoral-granting research university with very high levels of research activity.


The successful candidate will be a highly regarded scholar suitable for appointment at rank of professor in one of the College’s academic units. The candidate also will have a strong record of academic leadership within a complex organization and demonstrated prior success both in private fundraising and research-based external funding and in working with other academic and community leaders. The Dean will be expected to become acquainted with and lead faculty groups from every part of the college in ways that both strengthen those groups and promote collaborative, cross-disciplinary work in teaching and research, both within the college and beyond.
